Overview

Eco-friendly processes, also known as environment-friendly or green processes, refer to goods, services, laws, guidelines, and policies that aim to reduce, minimize, or eliminate harm to ecosystems or the environment. Companies use these terms to promote their products and services, often with additional certifications like ecolabels. However, the overuse of these terms can lead to greenwashing. To achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), companies are advised to employ eco-friendly processes in their production, particularly in meeting Sustainable Development Goal 12, which measures sustainable consumption and production patterns. The International Organization for Standardization has developed ISO 14020 and ISO 14024 to establish principles and procedures for environmental labels and declarations.
