Food security is the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, healthy food. It encompasses the availability of food for people of any class, gender, status, ethnicity, or religion, as well as household food security, where all family members have consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. The concept of food security has evolved over time, with four pillars: availability, access, utilization, and stability. Food insecurity, on the other hand, is a state of limited or uncertain availability of suitable food, often caused by risk factors such as droughts, floods, shipping disruptions, fuel shortages, economic instability, and wars. According to some sources, food insecurity is a significant concern globally. The Global Food Security Index provides a comprehensive ranking of countries based on their food security performance.
