Mahayana Buddhism is a branch of Buddhism that accepts the core teachings of early Buddhism while also recognizing additional scriptures and doctrines. The Mahayana tradition was influenced by Tantric Buddhism. The Dalai Lama has noted that the Mahayana teachings are a precious gift, offering a path to enlightenment that is accessible to all. Thich Nhat Hanh has noted that the Mahayana teachings are like a lotus flower, beautiful and fragrant, but also deeply rooted in the mud of suffering. Mahayana Buddhism has been practiced in many countries, including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
